Soccer is enjoyed by our boys here in St. Columba’s, particularly in the Spring and summer months. Our school team takes part in the FAI Five-a-side competition every year. We’ve had great success, especially in 2014 when our team went all the way to the All – Ireland final in the Aviva Stadium. They won the Cork section in Mayfield and were crowned Munster Champions in Limerick.
We also have boys taking part in the 3rd and 4th class local blitz organised by Tramore F.C. We regularly do well and the boys really enjoy it!
St Columba’s Pupils Do Clean Sweep With Corinthians
Three St. Columba’s pupils, Michael Nason and Cian O’Leary from 5th Class as well as Destiny Okonkwo from 6th class played prominent roles on the College Corinthians U12 Premier team that had a hugely successful season in the local schoolboy soccer league. They helped their team capture a premier league and cup double and they were only beaten once in the entire season
College Corinthians would love to see more St. Columba’s pupils join their street leagues in their Castletreasure grounds on Donnybrook Hill. Indeed, our own Mr. O Mahony features on their first team and also a past street league player played in the FA Cup Final last week.
If you want to play in Turners Cross like these three or to be the next David Meyler, come up to our Street Leagues at the following times:
