Cork Primary Schools Sports is an event held annually in May in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and caters for over 6,000 primary school boys and girls from 300 schools. It is the largest one day event for children in Europe.
It was founded in 1927 by a group of teachers and has been held every year since, except during the war. 2014 will be the 87th year of the event.
Here in St. Columba’s we have a long and proud tradition with athletics. A great buzz of anticipation permeates the school on the day of the selection process. Each class makes its way to Douglas GAA pitch where hears, semi-finals and finals are run off. It is a great honour to compete and represent your school Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Once the selection process is complete, the training begins in the weeks leading up to the big day.
Over the years our athletes have been very successful, bringing home trophies from the sprints and relay events. The emphasis is on having fun as well as making the most of our talents.
