Junior School wardens are appointed by the local authority. The scheme requires voluntary participation by the children, approval of the school and parents concerned, training and formal introduction by an appointed teacher and subsequent operation of the scheme.
Here in St Columba’s BNS the traffic wardens are drawn from volunteers in sixth class. They are trained and organised into teams of six, each team being a ‘patrol’ with a captain, vice captain, two pole wardens and two assistant wardens. Each team wears a high visibility uniform supplied by the county council.
The role of the traffic warden is to ensure that school children cross the road to and from school safely. Our traffic wardens provide an invaluable service. They control a crossing within the school grounds and make coming and going safe for all our pupils and the wider school community.
