Sensory Garden

The sensory garden at St. Columba’s BNS is an oasis for all school students but especially for the boys in the Autism Centre. They often find many of the everyday sensory sensations overwhelming. The area is a calm and tranquil place to explore nature and to relax in.

The garden was opened by Mrs. Kathleen Lynch, TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Disability, Older People, Equality and Mental Health. Also present were the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Terry Shannon and TV presenter Diarmuid Gavin.

The fundraising began in January 2011. Huge credit is due to the Parents’ Associations (ASD) for their trojan work in organising the project. We were also very lucky with our main sponsor Liam Ryan of Supervalu Grange. A huge thanks Liam for all his help, the school is very grateful. Thank you too to the teams of volunteers from Pfizer Biotech and GE Healthcare who helped with the planting of the garden in spring 2011.
